The Shire Oak Offer
The Shire Oak offer captures the experience journey that all students have in their time at Shire Oak. It represents the opportunities and experiences our students can experience to help them develop their cultural capital and behaviours in line with our academy ASPIRE values.
Enrichment Activities
At Shire Oak Academy we believe that participation in extra-curricular activities on a regular basis is the best way to help our students to develop their individual personality and enhance social or academic skills. We have a broad range of activities and club, including art, drama, history, football, badminton, orchestra, reading, science, photography, basketball, garden design, canoeing, rugby, climbing, netball, rounders, athletics, horse riding, skiing, fitness, Duke of Edinburgh, choir, textiles, TV and news.
50 Things
As part of our ASPIREcharacter programme we encourage all students to take part in as many activities as possible both inside and beyond the school, developing a 50 things to do before you are 18¾
Drop Down Day
To extend our curriculum we have arranged a number of ‘drop-down’ days. During these days the timetable is collapsed and students take part in a wide range of enrichment activities.
During Novembers drop-down day our Year 7 students took part in a theme day with our Creative Arts faculty celebrating Diwali, whilst our year 8s undertook a day of problem-solving. Year 9s theme looked at inclusivity and awareness with the Well Being Faculty whilst both Year 10 and 11 were treated to live performances of different plays linked to the texts they are studying.
Finally, our sixth form undertook enrichment sessions exploring a range of themes including an incredible talk from a holocaust survivor.
