Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy. Music is the electrical soil in which the spirit lives, thinks and invents - Ludvig Van Beethoven

Subject Overview
Our intent is to develop learners who can:
- Work well with others
- Work independently to improve skills via hard work and problem solving
- Appreciate a wide range of diverse musical styles
At Shire Oak we have devised a music curriculum which implements the key skills of performing, composing and listening. We aim to expose our pupils to a wide range of styles that cover popular and world music styles.
Our curriculum is practical based, focussing on group and individual skills.
After ks3, pupils have the option to take music as a GCSE to develop their skills further.
Throughout their time in the department pupils will perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions. Students will learn to sing, compose music, and have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, and use music technology appropriately.
They will begin to understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the interrelated musical elements: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.
We also employ a number of professional musicians who deliver our private instrumental lessons during the working week.
