Student Attendance

The Importance of Good Attendance at Shire Oak Academy

At Shire Oak Academy, we believe that excellent attendance and punctuality are the foundation for success. Every school day matters - when students attend regularly, they are more engaged in learning, build stronger relationships, and achieve their full potential.

Our Attendance and Punctuality Policy sets out our shared commitment to ensuring that every student has the best possible opportunity to succeed. Working in partnership with families, we aim to remove any barriers to attendance and provide the right support for every child.

Regular attendance not only supports academic progress but also helps to develop essential life skills such as responsibility, organisation, and resilience. By arriving on time and attending every day, students demonstrate respect for their education and contribute positively to our school community.

We encourage parents and carers to contact the school if they have any concerns or need support in helping their child attend regularly. Our Attendance, Pastoral, and Safeguarding Teams are always available to offer guidance, discuss any barriers to attendance, and work together to find positive solutions.

Free Breakfast Club

A great day starts with a great breakfast! Our Breakfast Club is open to all students every school day from 8:00am, completely free of charge.

The club offers a welcoming space where students can enjoy a light breakfast, spend time with friends, and get settled before lessons begin. It provides a calm and positive start to the morning, helping students to feel focused, energised, and ready for the day ahead.

Attending Breakfast Club also helps students arrive on time, ready for the school day - supporting our commitment to excellent attendance and punctuality.

Reporting Your Child’s Absence

At Shire Oak Academy, we understand that there are times when students may be too unwell to attend school or need to be absent for unavoidable reasons. However, it’s vital that parents and carers inform the school promptly so we can ensure every student’s safety and keep accurate attendance records.

If your child is absent, please contact the school before 8:30am on the first day of absence by calling 01543 452518 and selecting Option 1 to speak with the Attendance Team. Parents and carers should continue to report each day their child is absent.

If you are unsure whether your child is well enough to attend, or if you need advice or support, please reach out to our Attendance, Pastoral, or Safeguarding Teams - we are here to help.
