Welcome to Shire Oak Academy Sixth Form

 

Our aim is to provide a high quality, supportive environment, offering full-time level 3 academic and vocational qualifications that equip students with the skills and attributes for a successful future in higher education, employment, and life. We are a successful provider with an extensive range of  A-Level and vocational courses.

 By putting personal development at the heart of all that we do, we prepare our students for making confident and informed decisions about their pathways beyond secondary school. Bursary

The 16 to 19 Bursary Fund provides financial support to eligible students aged 16-19 to allow them to remain in education.

There are two types of 16 to 19 bursaries that you may be eligible for:

Vulnerable Bursary

The Trust can approve up to £1,200 of bursary funding for students who are:

• In Care or Care Leaver

• Receiving Income Support or Universal Credit in their own right

• Receiving Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payment in their own right and Employment Support Allowance or Universal Credit in their own right

Discretionary Bursary

The Trust can approve up to £1000 of bursary funding for students plus support with meals (depending on Free Schools Meals status).

To be eligible, the student’s family household income must be below £30,000 per annum, including income from employment, pension payments, jobseekers allowance and tax credits.

 

FAQs

What can I spend my bursary on?

The bursary can provide support for meals, transport, uniform, books, stationery a laptop and printer and other costs relating to your 6th form education.

Will I be sent regular payments?

No, the school can provide items such as bus passes and laptops directly and you can claim reimbursements for the cost of items such as your books and stationery.

Am I automatically eligible if I receive Free School Meals or Pupil Premium?

No, you would still need to provide evidence that you are either a vulnerable student or from a household earning less than £30,000 per annum.

How do I apply?

You will be able to apply via an online system called Applicaa Bursary 16+. It is simple and quick to use and will allow you to fill out your personal details and provide evidence of your household income all in one place.

If I was eligible last year, do I need to reapply?

You won’t need to complete a full application you will just need to sign a disclaimer stating that your circumstances have not changed so your eligibility will continue into year 13
