Careers Provision For Parents
Opportunities available for students at Shire Oak include:
Careers Adviser
One-to-one appointments with an impartial Careers Adviser are available at any point during a student’s life at Shire Oak. The Careers Adviser is also present at key events such as open evenings, options evenings and parents evenings. The Adviser is happy to discuss career paths with both students and parents.Tutor Time
Students in all years receive guidance in tutor time on topics such as; CV writing, interview skills, preparation for mock interviews and work experience.
Careers Events
A careers fair is run once a year and sees employers and training providers in attendance. Local colleges, universities and private training providers are invited so students can discuss careers with employers and training providers directly and gain valuable information about their future.
Enrichment Days
External providers in the past have included the Police, Military and UCAS. These providers have helped with enrichment days offering different career related workshops. Practice interviews for Year 11s with a team of local employers are staged, putting students through mock interviews. For Year 12 and 13 we offer Enrichment Days that support all students no matter where they choose to go after sixth form.
Extra Provision
A wide range of extra provision is offered to students. Sessions on employability skills, as well as trips to external fairs and events are organised so students can see how the world of work functions in subjects/areas they are interested in.
